How Long Do Fastbraces Take?

Fastbraces Houston, TX

Fastbraces® are a significant improvement over traditional metal braces. These two orthodontic devices share some similarities like using metal brackets and wires to push teeth to a better position. Tightening the wire increases the force applied to the patient's teeth by either device.

The main difference between the two devices is the elbow brackets that are used with Fastbraces. This gives the metal wires that connect the brackets more flexibility, allowing them to simultaneously push teeth crowns and their roots. Traditional metal braces only push on the crown.

Treatment times with clear braces are significantly shorter with Fastbraces®  Those with minor orthodontic issues can straighten their teeth in as little as three months and the longest a patient might have to wear Fastbraces® is about a year. That is a huge difference from traditional braces which have an average treatment time of somewhere between two to four years.

Introducing Fastbraces

Fastbraces® can be used to address many of the orthodontic issues that traditional braces are used to fix like crooked teeth, misaligned teeth, overbites and underbites. The main benefit of choosing Fastbraces over other orthodontic devices is the shorter treatment time.

Fastbraces also reduce the need for an aligner after getting orthodontic treatments. People who finish up their teeth straightening treatments often have to spend some time wearing retainers to help keep their teeth in the proper alignment. People who complete treatment with Fastbraces typically only have to wear their aligners for about 15 minutes per day.

The process

Getting Fastbraces starts with a consultation with a dentist. The oral professional examines the patient's teeth alignment to determine what their best options are. A visual examination combined with diagnostics like x-rays can help to make this determination.

The installation of Fastbraces involves the dentist cementing the unique brackets to each of the patient's teeth. All the brackets on one half of the jaw are connected to metal wires that are anchored to the back of the mouth. Tightening these wires increases the force pushing on the patient's teeth.

Fastbraces are permanently held in place, so they cannot be removed after their installation. That means the patient will need to adjust to eating and speaking with brackets and wires on their teeth. It can take some patients weeks to adjust to life with braces.

Dentists recommend avoiding hard and sticky foods since these can damage the wires and brackets that make up Fastbraces, thus limiting the effectiveness of the patient's treatment. The brackets and wires that come with Fastbraces can also get in the way of oral hygiene. These wires and brackets cover up parts of teeth and that allows plaque and tartar to build up in these areas. Flossing, in particular, can be quite challenging with Fastbraces. An easy trick to get around that is by using a water flosser.
